相機由10×10的芯片組成,每個芯片都是一個獨立的具有無縫隙硅傳感器的Timepix混合像素探測器(256 x 256 像素點)。無縫隙技術保證所有的芯片在各位置上緊密組合。因此WidePIX?10x10 的所有面積都具有靈敏度(無縫隙)。
每個像素有用于粒子計數(如X光子)的數字集成電路。按照排除噪聲的量子輻射原則進行粒子計數(集成和讀出噪聲為0)。光子計數能獲得高襯度以及寬動態(tài)范圍(理論上無范圍限制)的圖像,因此可用于高襯度成像低質量物體結構(如塑性或軟體組織)。
Timepix技術可以采用一個能量閾值,可通過獲取彩色或光譜照片,得到不同材料顯示出不同的顏色(與彩色圖像類似)。該款相機的最低檢測限為5keV,相機的空間分辨率由像素尺寸(55 μm)來決定。位于芯片邊界的像素尺寸在這個方向上要大2.5倍,在芯片邊角上的像素尺寸在各方向上都大2.5倍。相機通過USB2.0接口與控制電腦相連,讀出時間為0.65s/每幀。冷卻裝置為水冷卻系統(tǒng),確保相機的熱穩(wěn)定性。相機能耗為100W。
